A patent protection for an invention in the territory of the member states of the European Patent Convention (EPC) can be obtained by filing of only one patent application for a European Patent. The EPC is in force since 7 October 1977. At present 38 countries are members thereof. The Convention determines the requirements and the procedures necessary a European Patent to be obtained. Bulgaria is a member of EPC since 1st July 2002. An European Patent Application can be filed in the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria or in the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich or in its branch in Hague in one of the following languages: English, German or French.
